Lance Armstrong Races for Replacement

larmstrong.jpgI think it's safe to say that Lance Armstrong is the biggest thing to happen to the world of cycling since "Breaking Away." Now that he's retired, Armstrong is teaming up with the Discovery Channel to put some Hollywood-style excitement into the sport -- sort of.

ABC News is reporting that the two are launching "Race to Replace," a competition to find the next great cycling star. Experienced and amateur cyclists will compete, with one getting a chance to enter the Brickyard event with Discovery's team at the USA Cycling Pro Championships in earlier September.

"Race to Replace" will be held on August 12 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. No word on whether the event will be made into a special for the Discovery Channel's lineup. It sounds like a great way to boost a little interest in the sport though. -- Rachel Cericola
