Grandpa Al Lewis Dies

grandpa.jpgMany of you probably thought that Al Lewis, aka Grandpa Munster, died years ago. Grandpa was alive and fairly well -- until Friday, when USA Today says that Lewis passed at the age of 95.

Born Alexander Meister, the elder Munster also spent two years on the classic "Car 54, Where Are You?" Lewis also spent time as a basketball scout, a restaurant owner, a big-screen movie star and even tried his hand at politics, running against George Pataki a few years back. Despite years of failing health, the actor was still performing a weekly radio program up until his death.

But the most shocking information I learned from his obit: He was actually 6'1". He always looked so short against his costars. Maybe is was the cape.

Lewis is survived by his wife, three children and four grandchilden. -- Rachel Cericola

Thanks for that info Angelina. I guess it was updated the day after I wrote the story. I can't believe he wasn't older!
