Don't get too excited, but the Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that the rumors are true: Showtime is interested in taking over Fox's failed sitcom "Arrested Development."
"I always thought it was a better fit for a cable network than a broadcast network," says Robert Greenblatt, Showtime president of entertainment.
Now the downside: Nothing has been set in stone yet. Showtime announced four new shows yesterday -- which did not include the Emmy-winning sitcom. Why? Maybe because Fox still hasn't let it go yet. Also there is no word on whether creator Mitch Hurwitz wants to continue with the show -- and he's a crucial cog in the deal.
However, the talks are alive and well, thank you. "It really does fit in with a lot of things that we're doing," Greenblatt adds.
The final four episodes of "Arrested Development" on Fox will air in a two-hour block on February 10.

If this comes to pass I believe it'll make "AD" even better. Can you imagine this show without censors?
-- Posted by: mac at January 20, 2006 12:53 PMYes, I'd certainly rather it be on Showtime--they'd respect it much more than Fox has. I kind of like the bleeping, though, although I'm not exactly sure why. Not that I generally support censorship--it just kind of adds to the feel of the show somehow, almost the implausibility level.
Of course, it would be worth it to have it on Showtime. Please, please, please...
