Harvey Fierstein Plays Dress Up

fierstein.jpgPeople seem to appreciate Harvey Fierstein a lot more when he dresses up a bit. The Hollywood Reporter says that he will be donning his "Hairspray" duds -- in other words, a dress -- for a new sitcom for Fox.

The untitled show will follow the "Roseanne" format, with Fierstein playing -- wait for it -- a blue-collar mom. The show is described as "a little outrageous." No -- Cher on "Will & Grace" is a little outrageous. This is just downright bizarre.

Just don't expect the outlandish clothes or musical numbers from the hit Broadway (soon to be another major motion picture) musical. Despite the casting choice, Fierstein will play a real mom dealing with her real kids and real problems.

Got to say though: Fierstein is pretty convincing. After all, he did win a Tony for his portrayal of Edna Turnblad in 2003. No word on when the pilot might make it to air. -- Rachel Cericola
