OK -- maybe that is a harsh headline. Maybe something like "Stupid Sue Dr. Phil" would be more applicable, because anyone that thinks that Dr. Phil knows nutrition has some serious problems.
Now the New York Daily News is reporting that three people woke up and smelled the bacon -- and it smelled really good, so they are suing the Oprah protégé.
Supposedly, the Shape Up! diet program helped you change the way you think about food. All you had to do was take something like 22 pills a day for a mere $120 a month. Maybe you are so full from the pills that you can't think about ice cream. Sounds reasonable. I just love it when it's serious Dr. Phil, his name stands strong, but when he obviously doesn't know what he's talking about, the "Dr. Phil" part gets quotes around it. I guess that is his form of a disclaimer.
He also said in recent emails that he had "no expertise" when making the diet pills. Maybe he thought he was just posing for a fan photo when they slapped his image on all of those tiny bars and bottles. He may not know about a diet plan, but apparently he knows how to rewrite copy -- which the customers' lawyer says he did to his liking when he was endorsing the product line.
The company that makes the plan, CSA Nutraceuticals, and Dr. Phil severed ties last year when the FTC starting sniffing around about false advertising concerns. I smell a class action any day now. -- Rachel Cericola
This is the LAST time I pin all of my hopes for personal satisfaction on Dr. Phil. Jesus, what a let down.
