It's weird how "The Simpsons" is this crazy cartoon juggernaut, but creator Matt Groening's follow-up, "Futurama," never really caught on with Fox or its viewers.
After all, "The Simpsons" premiered in 1989 and is still going strong. That's quite an impressive run. "Futurama" couldn't make it past the fifth season. Not shabby, but in cartoon years, there's barely been time for the characters to morph into their final incarnation.
However, like another Fox cast-off, "Family Guy," this show has a cult following, as well as very impressive DVD sales. The TV Squad says all this just might equal a return of the futuristic animated series.
It could work. None of the characters have aged -- and some of them haven't even moved on to other gigs. Until then, you can catch old episodes of "Futurama" every night during Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. -- Rachel Cericola
