"Nip/Tuck" Losing Ads

jrichardson.jpgAds are getting slashed from "Nip/Tuck" -- and a surgeon wasn't even necessary. E! Online says that Toyota has dropped its advertising from the FX series because of -- wait for it -- the Parents Television Council.

"Without question, 'Nip/Tuck' is one of the most sexually explicit, profane, and violent television programs in the history of American television, and it's about to get worse," the PTC says on its Web site. "We need your immediate help to send a loud-and-clear message to the sponsors who are paying to bring this salacious material into our homes. The FX network and the series creator are on a mission to obliterate every remaining taboo for television, and they don't care how many young minds they harm in the process."

Um, shouldn't they be picketing some video game makers or something? Sorry, but this one really gets my goat. I can choose what I want to watch and believe it or not, I can actually choose what my kids watch. Because some people can't seem to master the remote control, there is an entire committee on hand to spoil everyone else's party.

Here's an idea: Don't get cable. Even better, use the V-chip. Every TV or cable system has some way to block out channels. I guess it's just easier to bitch about it and draw some free publicity.

The PTC says they applaud the carmaker. Toyota says that the PTC wasn't the only factor influencing their decision, although I am sure they don't mind getting less hate mail and protestors. I feel bad for Toyota and don't necessarily blame them. The PTC is like the wedgie that you just can't pick -- and sometimes they feel atomic.

Well someone must like the show; it ranks in cable's top 10 almost every week. My guess is, most of those millions of people buy cars too.

If the show is half as bad as they say it is, I really need to set my TiVo. "Nip/Tuck" airs every Tuesday at 10:00 p.m. (EST) on FX. -- Rachel Cericola
