"Dead Zone," "Deep Space Nine" Creator Dies

voyager.jpgThe SyFy Portal is reporting that Michael Piller, the creator of sci-fi series "The Dead Zone" and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," has passed away at the age of 57.

Piller died at his home on Tuesday, after a long battle with cancer. He created the long-running cable series "The Dead Zone" with his son, Shawn.

Trekkies may know him best as the creator of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" as well as the follow-up, "Voyager." He also wrote for many successful shows, including "Simon & Simon," "Miami Vice" and "Star Trek: The Next Generation," among others.

Piller is survived by his wife and two children. -- Rachel Cericola
