"Idol" Finalist Becomes "Dreamgirl"

jhudson.jpgShe didn't make it to the very end of "American Idol," but Jennifer Hudson has beat out almost 800 hopefuls -- including "Idol" winner Fantasia Barrino -- for a role in the upcoming big-screen version of "Dreamgirls." MTV News is reporting that Hudson has been cast in the movie, alongside Jamie Foxx, Beyonce and Eddie Murphy.

Hudson caused an uproar as well as a slew of conspiracy theories in season three, after she was voted out. Doesn't seem to have crushed her career too much. She has signed on to play Effie, the diva who gets dumped from the group. Doesn't seem like the role will be too much of a stretch after Hudson's experience on the FOX competition.

The movie is scheduled for release in December 2006. Until then, Hudson will be hard at work wrapping up her fist album.
