Showtime Creates "Masters of Horror"

texaschainsaw.jpgHalloween used to mean countless showings of "Halloween," "Friday the 13th" and Freddy Krueger -- as well as their respective sequels. Now we're lucky to get one measly showing of "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" (which still holds up, by the way). Whatever happened to fright night? The Associated Press says that Showtime is resurrecting the sentiment just in time with the premiere of its "Masters of Horror" series.

Forget the cheesiness of "Creepshow" or "Tales from the Crypt;" each of the 13 episodes in the series comes from the twisted mind of renowned directors such as Joe Dante ("Gremlins"), John Carpenter ("Halloween"), Tobe Hooper ("The Texas Chainsaw Massacre"), John Landis ("An American Werewolf in London"), and Guillermo del Toro ("Hellboy").

So lock the doors, bolt the windows and for chrissakes -- don't even think about answering the phone this Friday. One thing you can do: tune into "Masters of Horror" when it premieres at 10:00 p.m. (EST) on Showtime. -- Rachel Cericola
