Expect More from Mencia

mencia.jpgCarlos Mencia has a lot on his mind. Thank goodness Zap2it is reporting that Comedy Central has signed him to a new deal that will give him plenty of opportunities to speak his mind.

The deal will renew "Mind of Mencia," the comedian's half-hour sketch comedy show for a second season. He will also headline a stand-up tour that will hit 30 U.S. cities in 2006 and get his own hourlong standup special. Comedy Central is also planning a DVD release of the first season, probably hoping to catch some of the same lightning in a bottle that Dave Chappelle's DVD sales have produced.

The show was originally part of the plan to fill the void left behind after Chappelle fled the network and the country. While he's no Rick James, bitches, his show has proved to be a moderate success, averaging about 1.4 million viewers for each week of its freshman season. That's no small feat for late night basic cable.

Expect 13 new episodes when the second season of "Mind of Mencia" premieres on Comedy Central in March 2006. -- Rachel Cericola
