When Peter Jennings announced in April that he had lung cancer, it was a shock. He looked the same, but the voice that we had grown to depend on was unmistakably weakened. It almost sounded like he had a bad cold -- we all get those.
But when ABC News reported this morning that Jennings had lost his fight after four months, it was truly the end of an era. Love him or leave him, he was one of the unmistakable voices of the news. He was 67.
The Canadian-born Jennings made anchor at ABC in 1983. He covered 9/11, the Berlin Wall, the War in Iraq, and pretty much every other important event that I can remember over my lifetime.
Jennings died at his New York home. He is survived by his wife and two children. -- Rachel Cericola
