American Idol Fodder

Blake Lewis Leaves Record Label

blewis.jpgFollowing in the not-so-successful footsteps of several previous "American Idol" contestants, Season 6 runner-up Blake Lewis recently parted ways with his record label.

In an interview with MTV News, Lewis says he was not dropped by his label, Arista Records, but instead his contract ended and was not renewed. He only sold 300,000 copies of his first album, "A.D.D. (Audio Day Dream)," and apparently his label was not impressed. During the interview, he said: "Arista went through a lot of changes. The person who was working on my record was fired!I guess in the world of radio, selling 300,000 is not a success. I beg to differ. I couldn't be happier, and my fans are amazing and super-supportive."

So, while Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Chris Daughtry have all done amazingly well, Blake Lewis has now landed in the less-prestigious club made up of Ruben Studdard, Katherine McPhee and Taylor Hicks, all of whom were dropped by their respective labels in recent months.

Up next for Lewis, he's writing more songs for his eventual second album, and hopefully meeting with "Idol" creator Simon Fuller to discuss releasing his songs overseas. --Chris Sardelli
