Just think of last year’s “Idol Gives Back” as a test-run.
With missing guests and an odd duet between Celine Dion and Elvis Presley, the “American Idol” fundraiser was a strange trip, but still raised over $76 million for charity. So, of course Fox and “Idol” have announced plans to do it all again.
Fox’s “Idol” website reports that this year’s “Idol Gives Back” will feature a bevy of stars to help raise money for various charities. Already onboard are Bono, Brad Pitt, Reese Witherspoon, Miley Cyrus, Mariah Carey, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Fergie, Chris Daughtry, Carrie Underwood, Annie Lennox, John Legend and Snoop Dogg. (And yes, I realize I just said Snoop Dogg. Because, as you know, nothing says “American Idol” like Snoop.)
The special is set to interrupt the competition on Wednesday, April 9. Producers haven’t announced whether or not the episode will spare a contestant from elimination, much like it did last season. There’s also no word yet on whether Elvis will reprise his appearance. –Chris Sardelli
