American Idol: The Final 3

jsparks2.jpgSorry my writeup is late. I am violently ill. I wasn't going to post, but with only 3 left, I felt the need to share my delirious ramblings. Here were the highlights from Tuesday...

Jordin Sparks
Simon's Pick: "Wishing on a Star"
This was actually a good choice, even though Jordin sort of threw it in his face later. Sometimes I think the judges' choices suck, but this was not the case. I have to check my scorecard, but I'm pretty sure that Randy has used up his season limit on the phrase "in it to win it."

Producers' Pick: "She Works Hard for the Money"
Jordin should have dressed like a waitress for this one, a la Donna Summer in the music video. That said, this was a better choice than Simon's. I like it when the contestants rock out.

Jordin's Pick: "I Who Have Nothing"
She sounded great, but I consider it to be a copout since she already performed it once.

Blake Lewis
Paula's Pick: "Roxanne"
Big surprise: Paula picked Blake's song. Did she throw in a naked picture of herself with her fax? Blake sort of has Sting's nose, so I guess it was a good choice. However, I couldn't tell if Blake was ahead of the music or if the arrangement was just bad. His vocals were OK though and he didn't beatbox, which was a good choice.

Producers' Pick: "This Love"
Blake busted out the funky dance movies as well as some of the beatboxing, but it wasn't overkill. Again, I thought this was better than Paula's pick.

Blake's Pick: "When I Get You Alone"
Gee -- how did Blake's hometown get Sir Mix-A-Lot to show up at his homecoming? Did it involve community service or something? Props to Blake for picking a different song. I think it was his best one of the night, but might not be enough to save him. I think the black hair isn't helping either. I thought he'd dye it back at some point.

Melinda Doolittle
Randy's Pick: "I Believe in You and Me"
Instead of a screaming crowd, Melinda was in a long room with the governor of Tennessee and his wife. They were hoarding her to themselves to tell her that Randy had chosen her song. In true Randy fashion, he threw in a plug for himself in his own fax. Douche!

Producers' Pick: "Nut Bush City Limit"
Melinda definitely harnessed the power of both Ike and Tina. In all fairness though, were there any additional lyrics than "Nut Bush City Limit?"

Melinda's Pick: "I'm a Woman"
Melinda also picked something from a previous show, but hey -- it worked the first time. This time, she flubbed a few words in the beginning, but she's such a pro that most people wouldn't have noticed. Kind of crappy that she did though... I mean she's already performed it once!

If I was a betting woman -- well, one with money -- I would guess Blake will be the one going home. I think this will make for a boring finals, but it's looking like Blake will be beatboxing his goodbyes tonight. -- Rachel Cericola
