American Idol: Country Roads Take Sanjaya Home

sanjaya.jpgSorry I didn't post last night. I am really kicking myself about that -- actually, I am kicking my husband. We were out and didn't get back in time. It was unexpected, so the DVR was not set. I should always be ready in case of such an emergency!

I've pieced together various performances and nothing last night has really changed my mind: I still think it's time for Phil to go.

Simon kicked off the show with some groveling. Apparently by missing last night's episode, I missed Simon coming off as the jerk that many people think he is. After Chris Richardson's performance and a mention of friends at Virginia Tech, Simon appeared to be mocking Chris' shout out. I have to say... his apology seemed sincere. If Sanjaya wins, it would definitely bring the contest down a notch. "American Idol" without Simon though? I can't imagine the show going on.

Despite being an avid hater of the group songs, I can honestly say that tonight's might have been one of the worst ever. The chorus sounded like a bunch of third graders, and the musical chairs thing was annoying. After that, I was ready to see someone get the boot.

We are starting to get into the whole "who the Idols are" thing. Tonight we found out what everyone has been listening to. No one really had anything worth mentioning. I really wish I had been catching up on the Sox game at that point.

Speaking of not worth mentioning: Fergie performed. OK -- I am mentioning it. Mainly because I want someone to tell me what the hell Fergie has to do with country. I know she was probably in town, her schedule was open or maybe she is pals with Martina McBride, but it was a completely bizarre pairing. The only connections that I could come up with was that she is one of Jordin's musical favs for the week, and that shortly after her performance, there was a Candie's commercial with -- you guessed it (you are so smart!) -- Fergie.

The Ford commercial was as bad as usual, except it's worth mentioning that Sanjaya was barely recognizable. That look screams for a buddy pairing with Will Smith for "I Robot II: Electric Boogaloo."

Tonight's grouping was kind of amusing. Could Jordin be in the bottom three? What about Blake and LaKisha? I was completely confused. Equally confused was a very timid Melinda, who was asked to pick the bottom three. Instead she sat down in the middle of the stage. Good for her. She was safe; her job should have been done for the week.

So Blake, LaKisha and Sanjaya landed in the bottom three. What's up with that? LaKisha got snubbed by Randy, Paula was incoherent, and Simon seemed elated.

One of them will leave with this week's memories of "Shrek the Third" and the Dreamworks tour from uber-CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg. The kids looked like they were hoping for Cameron Diaz. Maybe she was afraid that Jordin could kick her ass and take her job. Antonio Banderas wasn't such a wuss though; after all, he is El Mariachi.

Blake will have more "Idol" memories. LaKisha looked disgusted to have to hold on to Sanjaya after that. I would be too. I am guessing that she was thinking, "I might be going home because of this guy?" In a big upset (for many a-site out there), Sanjaya finally got sent home. He cried like the little girl he is. I liked that better than his ode to "hair" though. Blake wiped LaKisha's tears, which was almost as bizarre.

Idol Gives Back is next week. There is a nice superstar lineup, but I am most curious to see what Helen Mirren will sing. See you next week. -- Rachel Cericola

Red or White Sox?

VFTW is probably going to pick Phil or Chris next

Red Sox!

I am thinking VFTW is going to pick Phil. However, Chris might last longer so they could go with him.

I can't believe that either of them were in the top 4.

TV Fodder,
For how much you care about American Idol, I'm suprised you don't know that every week anyone can vote on for which singer they want to watch perform on Wednesdays, as this week was Fergie! I hope this fixes all your confusion and negative comments..

Beau: It fixed the confusion part. Thanks. It still seemed completely out of place.

Lizie: I couldn't believe about Blake either. The show is full of surprises, I'll say that...

I'm pretty certain, anyone with any appreciation for an able singing voice is excited Sanjaya is gone

True True, Fergie was out of place, OH! And did anyone notice that her Performance was filmed on a totally different day! Yes, it's crazy.. They showed the judges while she was singing and none of them were wearing the same clothes!

Heh, Sanjaya looked more like Neo feom the Matrix movies than a character for I, Robot

-- 8. Posted by: Bryan at April 19, 2007 2:32 AM

Beau: I totally didn't notice that! Sort of cheesy if that was the case... good catch!

Bryan: I agree... he did look more like Neo, but Will Smith would make a better buddy film -- unless Keanu and Sanjaya want to team up for another "Bill & Ted" movie. That would be movie magic!
