American Idol: Last Ladies' Night

Was Seacrest trying to channel Carl Sagan with that outfit tonight? It was a little weird. Not half as weird as Paula dancing during performances. Does anyone else find that completely inappropriate? I understand she is having a good time, but she is standing in between two judges, and jeez... it's hard enough to manage a beer and dance. I can't imagine having to judge a singing competition and dance.

Sadly, I didn't have a beer or my dancing shoes tonight, so here are my notes on the last of the ladies' nights...

Jordin Sparks
Jordin Sparks
Jordin seemed off-key on a few notes and Simon was right about her performance being a bit manic, but you know what? It didn't matter. She was awesome. "Heartbreaker" kicked off the night with a lot of energy and showed off Jordin's spunky personality and a rockin' side that I didn't know she had -- and I liked it.

Sabrina Sloan
Sabrina Sloan
Sabrina had the power voice going from the start, but I was so high from Jordin's performance, it sort of turned me off. I like the perkier performances. After all, I have to watch a minimum of three hours of "American Idol" each week -- try to keep me awake people! Sabrina is great though, and Simon was a little harsh saying it was like a hotel performance. Of course, he probably hasn't been staying at too many Motel 6s.

Antonella Barba
Antonella Barba
Antonella finally picked a song that suited her voice. She had a few off notes, but it was probably her best performance since the competition has narrowed. Not sure if that says much. Unless VoteFortheWorst.com fans come out in droves, I am guessing she is leaving tomorrow.

Haley Scarnato
Haley Scarnato
Again, bo-ring. "If my heart had wings?" Could there be any worse lyrics than that? Randy said it was an interesting song choice. If by "intersting" he meant "sucky," then I agree. And who knows? Maybe he does; he considers wow and "yo" to be the same thing. All of the judges said the song was "her." In other words, they are saying that Haley is incredibly boring. Hopefully Simon will make an effort to learn her last name before she leaves tomorrow.

Stephanie Edwards
Stephanie Edwards
Stephanie took a slow song and managed to make me interested. She sounded a little off-key in a few spots, but it could have been me because I can't imagine that this girl ever sings off-key. She seems like such a natural. It is going to be a very tough final 4 this season.

LaKisha Jones
LaKisha Jones
My father-in-law loves LaKisha, and that says a lot. Who wouldn't love her? I don't love her so much that I would give her a pass for that trucker hat from her opening video though, but hey -- she made up for it by singing afterwards. Even though she deserves to be the next Idol, I hate when judges deem someone to be the next Idol (you, Paula). For some reason, it usually seems to be the kiss of death. Like the audience is out to prove the judges wrong. Hopefully LaKisha and the rest of the American public realizes that no one should ever, under any circumstances, listen to Paula -- and vote for her anyway.

Gina Glocksen
Gina Glocksen
Gina must have taken Simon's previous comments to heart, because tonight she gave her most rockin' performance of all her performances. I didn't recognize the song as Evanescence until they mentioned it, but frankly, I didn't think she rocked as hard as Jordin. I find it disgusting that each judge said, "this is who I thought you were" or "this suits you." One performance and a wardrobe from Hot Topic does not make Gina a punk rocker.

Melinda Doolittle
Melinda Doolittle
Melinda's revelation was that has OCD. Your friends are right, honey. Maybe one of her rituals is beating herself senseless if she doesn't give a good performance, because damn -- she was good this week. LaKisha might not want to start sizing that Idol crown just yet.

The girls showed up the guys once again, which should make for a very interesting competition once the sexes are combined. Tomorrow night, the final 12 is revealed -- along with Carrie Underwood's latest single. -- Rachel Cericola
