American Idol Fodder

Chris Daughtry Signs Record Deal

cdaughtry2.jpgHe may not have been a sure thing when it came to winning "American Idol," but Chris Daughtry can count on one thing: He's about to be paid. USA Today says that this season's rocker has signed a deal of his own.

The deal is with Clive Davis in conjunction with "AI" creator Simon Fuller's 19 Recordings Unlimited. Daughtry is looking to form a band that will write and record material for an album that should hit shelves later this year. No word on who will be in the band or an exact release date for his debut.

Guess he did have a plan when he turned down Fuel's offer to helm the band last month.

Daughtry is currently getting heavy airplay on the radio with his version of Bon Jovi's "Wanted: Dead or Alive." -- Rachel Cericola
