It's hard to call this news, but the Washington Post is reporting that Taylor Hicks has signed a record deal. Wasn't that part of the "American Idol" prize package?
I guess it's sort of a scoop that the deal has actually been inked, since Hicks has spent the past week making the rounds on the talk-show circuit.
The contract will lock him into a deal with Simon Fuller's 19 Recordings Unlimited, as well as an album with Clive Davis. Unfortunately, that horrible single ("Do I Make You Proud") will be the first recording we receive. I love the guy, but c'mon -- that's sap city! In more pleasant news, he will also be doing a cover of the Doobie Brothers' "Takin' It to the Streets."
Both songs will hit shelves and online outlets beginning June 13. -- Rachel Cericola
