American Idol: Songs Contestants Should Sing

We here at TV Fodder fancy ourselves music connoisseurs of the highest order. We know this because we use the word "connoisseur" in casual conversation (this is a prime reason why we're all very, very lonely, but let's not pursue that line of thought ...)

Since we know oh-so-much about music, we've decided to help this year's "idol" contestants with their song selection. We've thought long and hard about these choices and now, just as it's needed most, we're ready to reveal our Running List of Songs "Idol" Contestants Should Sing (not the most elegant title, but it'll do).

This list is very much a work in progress and we need you, our astute readers, to contribute your own recommendations via the comments box at the end of this article. Not only will you be adding to the general pool of "Idol" knowledge, but you might just arm your favorite "Idol" contestant with the perfect tune.

Bo Bice made Whipping Post his own last year and Bucky is NO Bo Bice.

I'm with Amy on the JT song, that could win the competition for me!

Chris could just stand on the stage and do nothing and I would still love him! But I would def. go with anything by Live(even if he does not give them credit, really who cares!)

Bucky-please he should just give up, I dont want to hear him sing anything!

I agree w/ Dawn Kate about the Bo/Bucky thing. Bucky is NOT Bo, and I doubt he wants to be. Bucky is wonderful in his own right. He would do well to hang with the Southern Rock/Country stuff with that gritty voice, but I can see him doing a number of songs. He may not be the best on this show, but I think he's got more talent than he's being given credit for.

Taylor will win this competition if he sings just one Ray Charles song. JUST ONE.

Katharine - "Son of a Preacher Man"

-- 9. Posted by: mac at April 1, 2006 2:45 PM

I fear that Ray Charles or Joe Cocker might blow up in Taylor's face. Like I would love to see him sing either, but I think too many people would be all over him for doing an impersonation.

That said, I wouldn't mind seeing him do "She Came in Through the Bathroom Window." Sure, it's Joe Cocker, but he could say it was The Beatles version!

taylor should sing / into the mystic/ by joe cocker

-- 11. Posted by: john at April 5, 2006 6:43 PM

Taylor - Home - Marc Broussard
Katherine - anything by heart - Ann Wilson (Up on Cherry Blossom Road), Eva Cassidy (Fields of Gold), JOan Osborner - Preacher Man

I'd love to hear Puttin on the Ritz, that'd be funny as heck, and I'd give it good comments,

Has anyone sang Frank Sinatra on the show yet? I read in an interview that he believes Frank Sinatra is his favorite singer, in any case, "New York, New York", if it's sang correctly, would probably win his vote.

I am trying out for an idol in my town and was wondering what everyone thought about the song " At last"

-- 15. Posted by: karen at May 1, 2006 2:11 AM

Taylor will win if he sings I Am A Man of Constant Sorrows which was popularized in the hit O Brother Where Art Thou. He could "do his thing" while belting out that song!
