American Idol: Lisa Leaves

tucker.jpgLooks like someone has clued in producers that we hate the group sing-along. I think it might be gone for good -- at least until they can't get any signed artists to appear. Now can that same person tell them that the Ford commercials are crap too? I guess I can't be too picky.

The Shakira/Wyclef performance was actually pretty good, but maybe it was just Simon's face that was priceless. Seriously though -- how can Shakira shake it like that and sing at the same time? I thought she was lip-synching for a minute there. However, I still think her outfit is a slam-dunk for US magazine's "When Bad Clothes Happen to Good People" section this week.

All of the gyrating came to a screeching halt when it was time to clip someone. "What have you done?" asks Seacrest. That really annoys me. Does he not understand how the show works?

The safety of the bottom row was no surprise. The surprising thing was Paris' hair. How many styles can one human have?

The big shocker was Katharine McPhee -- in the bottom three? I didn't think she was all that last night, but that girl deserves to at least make it to the top five. Of course, there was no way she was leaving tonight, but that was just wrong.

Sending Ace back first just killed off any suspense. However, Simon mentioned that he thought Katharine wasn't as good as he had said after reviewing the previous night's performance. See, I knew he was hypnotized by her beauty!

Lisa Tucker was picked, and it seems like it was coming for few weeks. Still, it's kind of a shame. Not that I thought she was even close to winning, but she has a great voice. Somehow it got lost over the past few weeks. -- Rachel Cericola

They were lip synching for parts of it. Like when Wyclf got all up in Simon's grill. TOTAL LIP SYNCH.

Can I vote against Bucky? Seriously.
I think that vote for the worst thing must be working because you can not tell me people actually like him. Certainly not more than Ace and Catherine. If I have to suffer through his painful performances much longer I might die. And then Chris would lose his girlfriend so it would be a double tragedy.

Awesome post, jlou... awesome as usual!

I truly believe that if Lisa had waited a couple years, she would have gone much deeper into the competition. I got the sense that she doesn't really know her limits and she too often ventured beyond her strengths. There's no denying her talent, though.

jlou, here's my theory:

People can relate to Bucky, I think. A lot of people (especially in the South, where I'm at) can look at Bucky and say, 'Hey! I know a guy just like that!' People can't say the same for Lisa - or Katharine, for that matter. There's nothing about their personalities that bring you in, or that make you feel like you'd get along with them in real life, or that make you think they're fun, have a sense of humor, what have you. Simon always says this is a SINGING competition, and it is - but it's also about personality, likeability, and the ability to relate to and connect with the audience. I've disliked Lisa from the beginning, so I wasn't surprised or saddened at all that she was the one to go. I was pretty surprised to see Katharine in the bottom three, and I admit that she's one of my favorites and I've been rooting for her since the auditions, but.....I can see that Katharine's not connecting with the audience. She's stand-offish and doesn't show much personality. She's GOT to step that up if she wants to stick around, I think.

Having said all that, we'll see what happens with next week's Country theme (God help us all). Bucky and Kellie should sail through. Dammit. Let's start a Kellie backlash. The only thing she had going for her this week was the fact that she didn't talk much.

Except for the "I'm SORRRRRRY"
So annoying when she says that. Kellie maybe instead of being sorry you should be good.

I guess there is something about Bucky I just do not get. I also did not feel bad about Lisa. She was abyssmal this week.

Do you think Katherine is too forced like the Diana Digarmo (sp?) syndrome but not annoying more aloof. I am scared for country week. Maybe I will expand my horizons this week. i do like some sountry and at least it HAS to be better than this week.

I don't feel bad about Lisa either. I figured it would be her time this week.

I'm not sure what the deal is with Katharine. I really do think she can sing, but I guess she's just not connecting. I've read other comments that agree with you - she comes off as aloof and arrogant - and I think that's turning people off. Then again, maybe she just doesn't have the fan base that the rest of them seem to have. Hell, I thought Ace would have a HUGE fanbase, though, and that doesn't seem to be the case either. LOL!

I'm NOT a country fan at all, unless it's the old stuff (LOVE Merle Haggard!), but I can't wait to see what everyone does. I think you're right - it's GOT to be better than this week!

And maybe this is just me, but if we're gonna keep doing 'Theme Nights', can we get a 'Rap' night, or what? LOL! ;)

What happened to Elliot's name in the Idol Poll. He's still a contestant as of this date.
