American Idol: Adios Kevin!

kevin.jpgThe 30-minute episodes can be very deceiving. They make me think they are all down to business, but then there are plenty of commercials, "AI"-related plugs and Barry Manilow.

Speaking of all business though, was this Bucky's best outfit or what? It reminded me of those T-shirts that look like a tux or have the skeleton on them -- only his looked like just the lungs. Exactly what you want to project to 30 million people. Maybe Barry Manilow should have mentored him about that.

Bucky's fashion sense was not half as horrifying as this week's Ford plug. They ruined the Go-Go's "We Got the Beat" even worse than Pizza Hut's "We Got the Meat" commercial. I am burning my "Beauty and the Beat" album once and for all.

Did anyone notice Bobby Bennett's cameo during Barry's performance? The standing-O (when no one else was standing), the swaying, the hand waving ! I am wondering if his crappy seats are a result of his quick departure or a restraining order.

Ryan started whipping through the bottom three, and I was hoping for Kellie Pickler's mic to lose power again. She doesn't know what "a ballsy" is? Can someone really be that stupid and continously voted to stay on TV?

The bottom three were no surprise to anyone, except Paula. The kids weren't even on the stage yet and she was crying. Does she forget how the show works or what?

What always surprises me is how they treat the bottom three. I am surprised that Ryan didn't kick Lisa Tucker in the kneecaps before he told her she was safe. I really hate the way they kick people off. I don't want to go all Paula on everyone, but it just seems kind of cruel and they could be a bit more gentle about it -- especially if they expect the dumpee to belt out a tune.

Despite's best efforts, Kevin finally got the boot. I am shocked, but not totally surprised -- since this was the only week that I didn't pick him to go. All is right with the "Idol" world, my friends. -- Rachel Cericola

Does Kevin get to keep his new glasses?

I cannot believe people are buying into this Kellie fake persona act. It is getting tiresome. Nobody could be that dumb nor naive.

I totally agree that Kelly should of stayed cute and naive, but she lost my vote when she went straight to dumb.
I'm SOOOO happy that Kevin got kicked off, he should take his voice to Disney for a soundtrack. Well I didn't catch much of the episode because Lost was on, and thats number one priority right now, so thanks for the recap!

You are very welcome, Jen!

And I totally understand the "Lost" thing, believe me. Just ask my writer cohort, Mac.

Glad you enjoyed it!

Am I the only one that thinks Kelly has completely flat affect. Why is everyone confusing stupid with sexy?

-- 6. Posted by: jlou at March 23, 2006 7:32 PM

jlou: You are SO not the only one... you are right on!

-- 7. Posted by: Rachel at March 23, 2006 7:35 PM

jlou, like Rachel said, you are definitely NOT the only one. My only difference of opinion would be that Kellie's not as stupid as she is portraying herself to be. I think she knows exactly what she's doing and thinks it's cute. Why do some women think acting stupid is cute?!? It's NOT. At all.

Sher: Another right-on comment. I mean I find it really hard to believe that someone can be that dumb. Really.

Plus, she didn't seem like the brighest bulb in the beginning, but it's like we have seen her IQ drop over the weeks. So it might be an act. But on the other hand, could she be THAT smart?

All I know is that if she is that stupid, I want to be her manager. All I ask for is 70 percent.

-- 9. Posted by: Rachel at March 24, 2006 10:10 AM

LOL! 70 percent sounds about right for THAT job, if you ask me! ;)

I'd love to know if she's being coached by someone. The 'What's a ballsy?' line came off as rehearsed to me. I got a kick out of the fact that most of the audience didn't laugh at it (rightfully, because it was not funny), and loved Chris leaning over to her and saying, 'Don't ever say that again,' while kind of laughing at her. I rechecked to make sure I'd read his lips correctly, and sure enough, that's what he told her! LOL!
