We find out that after last week's episode, Ron got a hernia from the bicycle at the end of the last leg. He saw a doctor who pushed it back in, and he is going to go on. But now back to the race. Lorena & Jason receive the first clue which tells them to fly to Ouagadougou. They must figure out that this is in Burkina Faso -- that would be in Africa for those of you Geographically challanged. Once they arrive they are to take a taxi to the train station where they will get their next clue.
All the teams go off to the airport so that they can figure out where it is they need to go. One problem, the departure boards don't have that city listed, so they must consult the World Wide Web. Hendekea & Azaria are the only team to look at the clue and think "Africa". Hendekea says They are from Etheopia, so they will be comfortable in Africa. The first three teams that are now at the airport have found that it is in Burkina Faso and that Air France can get them there. There is only one flight leaving today to Ouagadougou and it lays over in Paris first. It leaves at 8:00 am and gets in at 4:35 pm. Nathan & Jennifer manage to get on a 7:20 flight to Paris, but I am not sure how this will help them, seeing as how there is only ONE flight to Burkina Faso. Hmmm.... we shall see. All of the other teams made it on the 8:00 flight. Ron & Christina barely made it, but they made it.
Dun dun dun....all the teams on the second flight are delayed! As they are all sitting on the plane, a voice booms over the PA system that there is a probalem with the plane and they will not be arriving on time to Paris. Looks like lady luck is smiling on Nathan & Jennifer today. It is possible that they could be the only ones on the only flight to Burkina Faso today. But no, all of the teams made the connecting flight. Darn.
Upon arrival, the teams pile into taxis in search of the train station. Shana & Jennifer agree to pay $3000 (in whatever currency they had) to get there. They gave the taxi driver $5000 and asked for change. Well, guess what? The change was not forthcoming. No really! And in the first ignorant comment of the episode, Jennifer comments that they are being taken to be sold to people for money. Yeah, right.
The clue at the train station tells the teams to take a train to Bingo, which is in the middle of the savannah. There are no real stops. There is a person that shouts the name of the stop out and people just get off in the middle of nowhere. They must first spend the night in the train station, as the ticket station is closed until morning. Like cattle, they all get on the same train along with the daily travellers. Shana & Jennifer semmed very uncomfortable on the train and in Africa in general. I think it was because all they saw was trash and flies everywhere instead of boutiques and salons. Still no facials, huh?
The good news is that the train did stop to let them out. I was disappointed though. I would have loved to see some Starsky & Hutch death roles off the train. As, they were let off seemingly in the middle of nowhere, they really had to search for the clue box. When they do find it, they find a ROADBLOCK. This one asked "Who is ready to work up a thirst?". The team member that does this roadblock must milk a camel. They have to fill it to the designated line, and then drink the milk to get the next clue. Phil tells us that they must be careful not to spill, as there is a limited supply of milk in the camels. If perchance one of the camels runs dry, they will have to wait until all the other teams have their milk to try another camel. To say that Lorena was freaking out is putting it mildly. They were warned that camels are sensitive to sudden movements and loud noises. She was spastic and screaming. "Aaahh! He's moving! Help." Well, if HE'S moving, I can see your problem right away. BTW, that's not going to be milk. No, don't worry, she didn't get a bull. She was just so freaked out that pronouns were not her friend either. To be completely fair, Julia was also having pronoun problems. Maybe they should have watched more Schoolhouse Rock growing up.
TK finished first and got the next clue. Donald and Christina were also doing a good job on this one. The teams now had to lead 4 camels along a path to get to the next clue. They will hand off the camels to a group of nomads to get their next clue. Which is a DETOUR. In this detour, teams must choose between Teach It or Learn It. In Teach It teams have to choose a non-english speaking child and teach them 10 common terms using pictures. When they can identify all 10 in one sitting, they will be given their next clue. In Learn It, teams must learn 10 words in the local language from a child. When the team is able to recite the words in one sitting, they will recieve their next clue.
The kids were doing a great job all around. It was not easy work by any means. The teams were not doing bad either. Hendekea & Azaria had the right idea. They split it up. Each learned 5 words and took the test right away. Some teams struggled more than others, but usually the ones that were patient did better. This well deserved clue tells the teams to travel on foot along a marked path to the outskirts of Bingo to the Pit Stop. In the meantime, a huge and quick storm blew through the area soaking most eveyone and made it that much harder for the teams that still had not procured enough milk. The storm looked really cool. I have always envied those crazy storm chasers that follow tornados. how cool would that be? Alright, back to business. The teams arrived in the following order:
1. Azaria & Hendekea who won 5 night trip for two to Bermuda. (don't get lost in the triangle)
2. Tk & Rachel
3. Nathan & Jennifer
4. Kynt & Vyxsin
5. Ronald & Christina
6. Nicolas & Donald
7. Shana & Jennifer
8. Jason & Lorena
9. Mariana & Julia who are eliminated from the race.
Wonder where they will go next week. Tune in to find out.
Overall good episode, I am finding this season I'm not really hating any team. Just a lot of teams that don't really matter to me at all.
Sad to see the sisters go, and I'm not even going to go into the phallic innuendos with the blond giving the camel a hand job. (sorry to any children reading this).
Man, just when I think the amazing race is done with Africa they pull a new corner of the dark continent out of their bag. mmmmmm Camel milk
Peace
