Premiere Notches Highest Ratings, Ever

24People across the country were watching the season premiere on Sunday night, as the show garnered its highest ratings ever, reports Reuters.

[The] first episode of "24" averaged 17 million viewers and a 7.3 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic, according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research. The second hour of "24," which ended at about 10:13 p.m. EST, held onto the majority of its lead-in to finish out with 15.5 million viewers and a 6.7 rating in adults 18-49.
The first episode may have gotten a boost from the Carolina-Chicago game, which cut into the start of the show (and screwed up my TiVo a bit) by a few minutes, but nonetheless, Fox is saying the two episodes were the highest rated episodes ever.

I don't know much about ratings, but I wonder if these numbers included those folks in South Carolina who had the second hour cut into ... by the news. -- Jason
