No big surprises here, but the New York Daily News confirms the assumptions about why the writers et al decided to kill David Palmer in the first episode. Executive producer Howard Gordon says that they didn't really have anywhere to take the character and his death would be a good springboard to get the season started.
Gordon said there had been brainstorming sessions with the show's writers when the idea developed. "Then somebody said, 'What if the President is shot?' It really was one of those epiphanies that suddenly crystallized," said Gordon.Of course, like I said in my review of the premiere, the fact that they killed him so quickly was a shock to those of us who have been following assassination attempts against him for years (days?). -- Jason UngerThe story of David Palmer, who has been part of the series since its inception, had played out. "We knew there was no place to take him," said Gordon. "So it was a convenient way to sort of jump-start the year, and we jumped on it."
it really was quiet depressing to see david out of the game, it layed down ma heart but though i guess this was the greatest gumble u guys have ever made.any way i trust yo judgement and all that work u do that keeps millions of fans in suspense, besides thats what keeps us in the 24 attitude, the suspense the drama, the glamour, the un expected, there is just alot too much to blow ur minds away.
